Terms of Service
Last updated 2026-07-24. ShowTheBill Monitor is a service of Content Compass, LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company.
1. Who we are
ShowTheBill Monitor ("the Service", "we", "us") is operated by Content Compass, LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. The Service checks the public machine-readable price files that hospitals are required to post, records what it observes with receipts, and alerts you to changes.
2. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, which are incorporated by reference, form a binding agreement between you and Content Compass, LLC. By using the Service or subscribing, you agree to all three. If you subscribe on behalf of a hospital, health system, or other organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and "you" in these Terms means the organization.
3. What this is not
ShowTheBill Monitor provides monitoring and technical findings with receipts. It is not legal advice, it is not a determination of CMS compliance, and it does not indemnify you against any penalty. A file we report as reachable and current may still be found non-compliant by a regulator; a file we cannot reach may still satisfy your obligations. Use the Service as one technical input, not as a compliance certification.
4. The Service
We check each monitored facility's price file on a regular schedule, as described in our documentation and subject to change, test whether an ordinary browser and our monitoring agent are treated the same, and record availability, filename, template version, and staleness. We email the alert recipients you designate, and we provide a portal and a monthly report. Findings are best-effort technical observations, not guarantees.
5. Acceptable use
A subscription covers the facilities listed on it. You may use our findings and reports for your own compliance and record-keeping. You may not resell the Service's output as a compliance certification. You may not share portal links or access tokens outside your organization and your designated alert recipients, and you may not access the portal by automated means beyond the documented pages and the links we email you.
6. Subscription, billing, and renewal
Current prices are listed on our pricing page. Billing is handled by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. We email a renewal reminder to your billing address about 30 days before each annual renewal. You may cancel at any time from your portal's billing link; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and your monitoring continues until then. Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy.
7. Termination and suspension
We may suspend or terminate your access if your payment fails and is not cured, if you breach these Terms, or if your use of the Service is abusive or unlawful. Where practical, we will notify you at your billing address and give you a chance to fix the problem first. When a subscription ends — by cancellation, non-renewal, or termination — your portal and data are handled as described in the retention section of our Privacy Policy: the portal stays available read-only for 30 days (you can request a full export of your monitoring history during that window), and data is deleted on the schedule stated there.
8. The public ShowTheBill site
ShowTheBill Monitor is a separate, subscription service. Subscribing, or declining to subscribe, does not affect how any facility appears on the public ShowTheBill site. The public site is built from public data under its own methodology, and no payment to us changes it.
9. Intellectual property
The Service — including the portal, software, report formats, and documentation — belongs to Content Compass, LLC. We grant you a non-exclusive license to use the findings and reports we deliver to you for your own internal compliance and record-keeping. The public hospital price files we observe are public data and remain so; these Terms claim no rights over them.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT A FILE WE REPORT AS HEALTHY IS COMPLIANT, THAT WE WILL DETECT EVERY CHANGE, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: CONTENT COMPASS, LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY GOVERNMENT PENALTY, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE; AND OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE FEES YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE FIRST CLAIM.
12. Indemnification
You will indemnify and hold harmless Content Compass, LLC from claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service, including any claim that you were not authorized to designate an alert recipient or to act for the organization you subscribed for.
13. Governing law, venue, and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and both parties consent to their jurisdiction.
14. General terms
If part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms, with the policies they incorporate, are the entire agreement between us about the Service. We may assign these Terms in connection with a sale or reorganization of the business; you may not assign them without our written consent. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes, we will email your billing address at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and the new version will state its effective date. For non-material changes, the "Last updated" date above is the effective date. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance.
